Considering the news that's come out about grok in the past, it sounds like it's working as intended

Not to mention that you are opening people up to identity theft at an unprecedented scale. The only safe data is data that is never collected in the first place, and you are getting people confortable with handing over their ID to anyone who asks.

This is is a disaster for cybersecurity and privacy.

Imagine if this had been done in America before trump came to power. If they could link any account to ID there would be no online dissent and no protests.

No matter which process is used the ID can be found with the cooperation of all parties.

The fossil fuel industry toppled Kevin Rudd, who was more popular than any PM we've had since. They can absolutely win this time, if they are willing to spend enough

I think Dutton is trying to force the fossil fuel industry to commit harder to their fight against Labor.

Everyone involved knows that Dutton would never hurt his friends in FF, but forcing Albanese to take a stronger stance increases their potential losses, which means they will spend more to win.

That seems to be the idea :(

Fun fact, security researchers have successfully started fires by hacking into a particular smart lightbulb then rapidly flicking it on and off.

A security hole is always something to take note of and fix, there is no way to know how it could be used

I hate to say it, but its closer to "if he influences our election and doesn't succeed" :( dutton has a well known soft spot for criminals with money

It is a certainty that he will try, and realistically he has been for some time already

AGI is "imminent" in the same way that the metaverse was "the future" in 2019, and everyone was gonna have a 3D TV in their homes after watching Avatar in 2009.

It's all hype, none of it works, none of it was ever gonna work, but their profit demanded our belief.

For me, its being able to see something and go "I dont like doing it that way, I'm going to change it to suit me". If it's something I do a lot and it saves a few minutes its worth the time

Speaking of moving the goalposts.. Much like building computers physically, some people get a bit obsessed yes.

For me it is easier to customise than windows and it is open source, so it is free and can't make agressive business decisions. If they do, I or someone else can copy the code and fix it
March 4, 2025 at 7:01 AM
Its not necessarily about tasks or customising being impossible to do elsewhere, its just easier on a platform designed to be modifiable

for smart soldering irons. There are ones for gaming on and ones for storing files. These have all started out as a standard OS and have been heavily customised for a specific task. There is no windows dishwasher as it would be too expensive to license and too heavy to run woth cheap parts

It's a tool, and what you do with it depends on what you need from it. There are really tiny, lightweight linux distros to put on small embedded computers in appliances that dont have screens and a couple specifically

Ok so you're happy with the cli being worthwhile then? Most of what you can do on linux you can do on windows as they were made to do the same thing, windows just tends to be more restrictive, slower and expensive.

As an example, I have recently created a bunch of commands (in an afternoon instead of weeks or more for a polished gui) to quickly navigate a code base. I can search for part of a line in a file, then search the list of matching files faster than I can open a file window, letalone navigate anywhere

else to make it for you, which is also very important in our current world, where companies can and do turn around at any time and say "actually give us more money or you can't use the product you paid for anymore"

Very few people are interested in an unstable os that requires constant fixing, but being able to use an os as a stable base to build off of to fit how you work is hugely positive.

CLI programs are a lot lighter on a computer and are easier to string together. You don't need to rely on someone-

Regardless of the truth of the original post( no idea ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), this seems to be more recent news
