Walking in Genoa's Foce district (which I hadn't been to for over 20 years) I discovered what seemed like the long-lost brother of Ivan Shadr's 'Girl with an Oar' statue. A younger brother given that this statue was inaugurated in 1938 (Shadr's statue was from 1935).

Here's the monument to regicide Gaetano Bresci in Carrara. In 1900 he assassinated King Umberto I in reprisal for bloody repression in Sicily and earlier in 1898 where between 100 and 400 demonstrators were massacred in Milan. Umberto I had just decorated the butcher of Milan, Bava Beccaris.

Carrara is a great place to visit as anarchist heroes like Meschi are honoured in marble. Meschi has a wonderful statue in the city and is buried in the anarchist corner of the local cemetery. (plus you can visit a statue to Gaetano Bresci who assassinated King Umberto I in 1900).
