Megaprojects can be symbols of imagined futures, as well as controversies, in regional development.

The reasons? (I) technology and greening, (II) geography and scale, and (III) the geopolitical situation.

Small towns play a key role as agents of regional development. Are they catalysts for the growth of their hinterland or do they soak up resources and talent from surrounding towns and villages? Both, but the story is more complex than it seems. Check out my recent article with the great Atle Hauge.
