Liberalism creates the conditions for fascism because of its unwavering alliance to capital.

And the fact that fascism is usually the result of liberalism inability to handle the contradictions of capitalism is quite an accepted fact in historical research and political science.

Mussolini was kicked out of the socialist party because of his position on the war and irridentism. He then moved completely right and waged political terror on socialists. Yes our PM, a fascist, came to power after our Dem party moved completely to the centre and gave up on the left.

Fascism was born in Italy first, and it emerged from the failure of liberalism and centre-looking socs. I think Mehdi is 100% right to be hard on the liberal left. It continues to enable fascist types by pandering to the opposite aisle and ignoring that the working class is in a very bad place economically. Historically, fascism is born out of liberal regimes.
