Dog person 🐶 Sometimes I run, always reading, talking too fast
I read it literally non-stop. I can’t believe it was written 20 years ago.

On Beauty: art, family drama, and academic chaos. I loved everyone in this book (especially Kiki 🥰).

Zadie Smith shows us that beauty isn’t perfect… it’s awkward, loud, complicated, and hilariously human

Among the authors I hold dearest, #ElizabethStrout books feel like a warm blanket on a rainy autumn afternoon. They warm my heart and make reflect on human bonds, friendship, family silences, untold feelings, and the power of sharing our stories. Her latest book is full of beauty

A very refreshing talk today! A fascinating journey into the seafloor through the stories of ocean mappers, explorers, entrepreneurs, dreamers and Indigenous people. Thanks so much @laura-trethewey.bsky.social

Can’t wait to read your book! 🌊

Two young people in my group asked why senior researchers with big egos treat them in ways that go beyond basic respect. I don't know.
But I do know that literature is a safe place where we read other stories to understand ourselves, to learn to be decent human beings. Let's read more. This book👇💙📚

Grazie Electa editore 🥰

Today I tried the new M4 to Milano Linate Airport. I love public transport and the M4 is a super cool service! Well done Milano! I often complain you’ve grown elitist, forgetting those who struggle, chasing profit, not building a true social network, but today I give you a round of applause! 👏🏼

Three (now cleaned) iconic cameras. Undecided which one to take. Hasselblad is my favorite, but a bit too much for me. Yet, seeing the world through that ground glass is pure magic. Love you Hassi 📸

In a small bookshop in Otranto I found this little book by Pierre Bonnard. He is one of my all-time favorite painters. I love his museum in Le Cannet. And yet, I didn’t know this painting (which I’ve found under different titles). I haven’t stopped thinking about it for days. It’s wonderful

Edizioni molto belle e alcune molto speciali. Indecisione. È da un po’ che non leggo in italiano

The Idiot. Published in 2017

Recommended for an enjoyable, easy, (and well-written) read.

A little dawn test near home. Just 500 meters of climbing through woods and rocks to see how the ankle holds up after the fracture, boots on. Getting ready for a bit of proper fatigue. I can’t wait to ring the 🔔 on my Monte CaBianca!

Maybe northern Germany isn’t the fanciest place. But quality of life means also going on a date dressed nicely, by bike 🚲, without feeling stressed, because there are safe bike lanes. And where there aren’t, bikes still have priority.

Biking brings happiness (when you feel safe)

When your partner is a botanist, 80% of the photos you receive are of beautiful landscapes and lovely wild plants (the remaining 20% are of our dogs 😅).

The last one is a cute wild gladiolus

Trying to understand my family’s story (from the Caribbean to the UK), I picked up this book. Wasn’t sure: I’m not big on hyped books.

Ended up loving them all: Clara, Archie, Irie, Samad, Alsana, Magid, Millat, Hortense, Neena

A book that literally kept me up at night. Superb writing

Being vegetarian for many years, I’m now on a new path.
I’m enjoying the journey so far, learning as I go, without putting too much pressure on myself.

Small steps: mindful choices 🌱

What an energy boost today in front of Katharina Grosse’s Wunderbild

Grosse works on an undefinable scale and said about her art: “…you’re within a surface where you can’t say, ‘This is this big, this is as big as my car.’ It’s as big as a form of imagination. And imagination doesn’t have a scale.”

Coming from a mixed-race family myself, I’ve always been intrigued by Danzy Senna’s books. “Caucasia” touched me deeply.

“Colored Television” is a wonderful book, funny and moving. Danzy Senna is an incredible writer. Highly recommended. I learned I am a Nusu Nusu (partly partly) in Swahili

Quick trip to Brussels. A friend (we both worked in sc museums) suggested the Natural Sciences Museum. Thought we might be biased but it was great! One exhibition, BiodiverCITY, shows what urban biodiversity means. Fun, hands-on. I designed a garden, made mistakes, learned a lot! I recommend it
