Why break it up? One piece of legislation is all that is required. Enabling ranking for both councillors and mayor at once would ensure the same process is used on both parts of the ballot. Two different systems (ranked for mayor, Xs for councillors) would be very confusing.

Because there are no rankings, the current system allows the single largest interest group in the city to elect all the spots. If we were able to rank councillors, results would more closely resemble the preferences of the community as a whole.

Much more effective in terms of guaranteeing that most of us end up with the politicians we actually want is electoral reform. I hope Ward Stamer is listening. Adding the ability to rank our choices on the ballot for both mayor and councillors would result in far better representation for everyone.

Agreed. And somehow PP comes across as louder than the speaker when he does it which makes it impossible to hear answers.
