The Duke's Sister and I was like, fine, happy it exists

There definitely is! But it's a little different in the business and broadcasting sense from stuff in magazines like Princess/Margaret/Hana to Yume where women are the direct market.
(Ngl I had not heard of Kaguya before and will probably check it out myself now!)

Kaguya and OnK are actually both from Jump (seinen magazine Miracle Jump and shonen magazine Young Jump respectively). Definitely a lot of crossover popularity though, and OnK recently got a stage adaptation which is the big sign the owners are trying to cater to the women in the audience.

Mashiko (eastern Tochigi) is very fun, it's a world class ceramic artisan community and there's lots of cute cafes (that feature the local pottery). Ashikaga (southern Tochigi) has the famous winter illuminations at Ashikaga Flower Park going through the end of February.

Starting the year right 😌

Was the romance interesting? Well it was basically a bunch of gross older men falling over themselves to commit either Title IX or journalistic ethics violations, so probably accurate on their parts (though the 24 year old law student reciprocating seems more aspirational). So not so much no.

Is the central mystery of Pelican Brief good? No!
Does the prose make up for it? Also no!
Is the literary format clever or creative? No! It was annoying as hell!
Are the characters interesting? Not at all!
Do I care what happened to them? I legitimately wish they all died much sooner!
