Kill your overdesigned darlings and ask; what is this character supposed to be, really?

Comic only works if you see the protagonist in the antagonist. Went too far into the creature feature realm. Simpler is better. More direct.

AND the time frame directly plays into the plot

Like the 9 years actually matters. It’s really cool

Insidious 1 and 2 are a duology, kind of like halloween 1 and 2. Like they’re very much one overall story (and 2 is the worst one), but then 3 moves forward in real time and there has been genuine impactful character progression.

Most of them except for the red door are on tubi. I rented TRD on apple

3 and the last key offer background context to the psychic (and she’s my favorite character in the series), but you don’t need to watch them to get the core family trilogy. You won’t miss anything

So, if you want to get to the red door asap, it’s important to know that the movies cover two narratives; the family and a psychic

Insidious 3 and 4 are prequels about the latter

It’s important to go in knowing that they are very arch; they’re designed exactly like walkthrough horror mazes

But the final film is legit *great*

its genuinely adorable that patrick wilson ended his directorial debut that was clearly directly inspired by paint it black by the rolling stones with an original song by patrick wilson

It’s got legit character growth, there’s no camp acting, despite being Patrick Wilson’s first director gig, it looks fantastic. Its got genuine laugh out loud moments and even goes full Raimi at multiple points

I’m really shocked at how much I liked it. I was not expecting that at all
