Peat enthusiast, bog wanderer & PhD student studying Falkland peat supported by CENTA NERC working with UKCEH, NHM London, SAERI and the University of Leicester (She/her).
It was lovely to summarize my PhD at the Geomicrobiology Society's Research in Progress meeting and to be honoured with the best talk award!

Visiting the Wellcome Trust's Zelfo wetland crop fiberboards was also a must on the way home

Last week I visited the Winmarleigh #carbonfarm. It was beautiful to be immersed in #sphagnum but it was also great to see how peaty grassland can be converted back to bog.

The trip brought together scientists, farmers, environmentalists and policy makers with fruitful conversations.

The main reason for visiting the Falkland Islands was to help the #LandRecovery Workshop. Here, the Land Recovery Programme Consultation was launched revealing it would cost just £3.6mil to set aside 30% of the islands for nature whilst still generating profit for farmers #30by30 #peatlandsmatter

Super cool to hear from all those cultivating a sustainable #paludiculture future at Fibrebroads by @norfolkbroads.bsky.social and seeing how architecture students at Norwich University of the Arts have been developing #Typha based materials. 🌱

There were many opportunities for outreach over the past two weeks in the #Falklandislands, a favourite is always visiting the school to talk about why peat is just the coolest

Here is our attempt to core through the classroom floor after the field trip was cancelled

Celebrating #WomeninScience day by visiting one of the field sites I set up in the #FalklandIslands for chamber GHG measurements back in 2022. Now with a #fluxtower measuring the emissions. Still as windy as ever 💨

Despite seeing more rain in the past two weeks than in the year I was living in the Falkland Isalnds, it seems most water is pouring straight out between the clay and peat layers with surrounding peat still dusty dry
