Mission ‘New Recruitment’ is underway: For the 4th time in its 13-year history, the German Internet Panel is inviting new respondents. On Sept 1st, we sent out 6,753 invitation letters and we are waiting excitedly for the response!

Our colleague, Tobias Rettig, presented important insights on panel attrition using data from the German Internet Panel at the #ESRA25. His analyses of dropout patterns and early warning indicators provide valuable insights into a key challenge in panel studies.

For the first time, more respondents completed the GIP survey (76th wave, March 2025) on a smartphone than on a computer. A notable shift in response behavior! #SurveyResearch #GIP

Share of different devices in the GIP. In the first GIP wave in September 2012, only about 4% of participants used a smartphone, while approximately 94% completed the survey on a computer. In the most recent 76th wave (March 2025), 49% of respondents used a smartphone, compared to 48% who used a computer. Tablets have always played a minor role: their share was 2% in wave 1 and was 3% in wave 76.
