For developers, I like to call this "unit tests for text" (you can see where the name comes from!) and I wrote more about this concept here: buff.ly/w8M7OXh

Define a goal and audience, write, and ask AI to review what you wrote (a blog post, a email, or anything really!)

Ideally, the last iteration should come from a human reviewer, but for those of us who can't afford that, UnitText is a cheaper option.

And then of course if they made it, everybody "always believed in them!" 👏 - if they don't they "told you so". 😎 Hindsight bias is a wild beast.

Anyway, @inpt.bsky.social and I now want to be those idiots. Not that our ambition is to build the next IBM!

One month ago, @giorgio.azzinna.ro and I hit record with:
👉 No clue what we were doing.
👉 An almost nonexistent budget.

Well, I fear this is currently out of budget for us... 🙃 but, if we do manage to launch a platform for writers to get automated reviews, it'd be a great opportunity to have a marketplace for human editors to give the final feedback. I believe AI falls short when it comes to triggering emotions

I'm thinking of expanding this concept further to turn it into an agentic AI system to help throughout all the steps of writing, from research to publishing. For example, asking more questions during the ideation phase to figure out the details, or doing some background search to find prior art.

I decided to automate this concept, and realised this was some sort of "unit tests" for text:

1. Define the goal and audience for your post
2. Write (on your own! No AI here)
3. Let AI review and comment - if the goal is met, tests pass ✅

Something I particularly appreciated about this book though is their approach to AI: the authors basically recommend using it as a "copy editor" rather than a writer. To criticise and review rather than write on its own.

Of course, we may still add a paid plan at some point to cover costs; while leaving users the freedom to self host if that’s what’s best for them.
It’s under the AGPL to cover the API/web part too that we may extend in the future!
