Loved/inspired by this from @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social
“The skills of real-world superheroes are solidarity, strategy, patience, persistence, vision, & the ability to inspire hope in others. The rescuers we need are mostly not individuals, they are collectives…”

This is a very good description of what is being done in the US and we need to recognise this for what it is:

Today’s marches reminded me of this lesson from @timothysnyder.bsky.social on the importance of physical demonstration. If you haven’t read his book - it’s a really compelling read for our times. ia801505.us.archive.org/11/items/on-...

Enormous pro-Palestine march in Brisbane. Hugely diverse group of marchers. Determined but peaceful with clear calls for action. The only counter protest seemed to be three blokes on a bridge overlooking it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #FreePalestine

Of all the wild Aussie slang I’ve come across since I moved to Aus, nothing will ever top this. Explained to me today and love that the Macquarie Dictionary details it so carefully. In these wild times feels appropriate as my new mission statement🕷️

Ok, I’ll admit i haven’t delved into this report but the title and press release are so overwhelming sad in that they show the underlying violence here is so normalised www.nationalacademies.org/news/2025/08...

I was in Brussels recently & came across a picture I knew from an Auden poem, that I’d never actually seen before - Brueghel’s Landscape with the Fall of Icarus. Rather, I knew it from a retelling by Alan Bennett in an audiobook-Poetry in Motion-that I think I played until the tape (😳) disintegrated
