He stayed right to the end, and got on the microphone to encourage the crowd and make sure every person in that parade got a cheer and a round of applause when they came to the end. A class act and a great entertainer.

For several years I took part in the annual parade that opened the Edinburgh Festival. They always had a celebrity to lead the parade, but we were always towards the back, and by the time we got to the end, the celeb had pissed off and we never saw them. Except for the year Paul Daniels was there.

I've a mate who was furious when Harris was convicted, not because of his awful crimes, but because "Two Little Boys" was his party-piece and he couldn't sing it any more!

At least in the old days, even the terrible stories had something entertaining about them, even if it was just laughing at the shit monsters or hammy acting.

Nowadays you'd have to take filming abroad to get that sort of bombed-out factory look, in those days you just nipped half a mile along the road from your studio!

One of my favourite Hammer films, although they cut out the bit from the novel where they search for the Talisman of Set, which turns out to be a mummified penis!

Excellent stuff. I'm currently watching the Blu-Ray of the TV version of Quatermass and the Pit, with brilliant commentary and interviews by Toby, I'm sure this will be great as well (plus with dirtier jokes!)
