Got distracted by baseball and forgot to post last night's cocktails. It's a short list. We've got a classic Whiskey Sour and a new one for me, a Pink Lady - gin, apple brandy, grenadine, lemon. And, of course, egg white for both.

Cheers, everyone. Enjoy that stupid extra hour this weekend.

In a lifetime of fortune cookie fortunes, I have not had one more useless.

The Naked & Famous was created by Joaquín Simó at the legendary NY bar Death & Co. He described it as the love child "of an illicit Oaxacan love affair" between the Last Word and the Paper Plane. Equal parts mezcal, Aperol, Yellow Chartreuse, lime juice.

I've probably posted this before, but I'm sharing again because it is a KILLER Sidebar spec.

1.5 oz Pierre Ferrand Ambre Cognac
1 oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao
0.75 oz lemon juice
1 tsp simple syrup
orange twist

Quick tour of this evening’s output at Bar Gilman. For me, the first Vieux Carré of the season. More properly served up, I think. But I prefer it on a rock.

My current reagent set.

World may be going to hell in a handbasket. But I got some new glasseware!

Love this story about one of today's Nobel winners, Mary Brunkow.

(She and colleague Fred Ramsdell, working at Celltech (RIP), uncovered the role of Foxp3 in the development of Tregs.)

Served six drinks this evening. But this Old Cuban is the only one I managed to capture. If you’ve never had one, you should!

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Last of the mint for tonight’s cocktails. Spiritually aligned with the last-of-the-basil pesto for tonight’s main course.

This may look like yet another Manhattan or riff thereof. But it's actually a riff on a Negroni. Specifically, a Nerina, as created by Employees Only in the West Village. Link to their cocktail book in the next post.

Anyhow: Plymouth Gin, Punt e Mes, Amaro Meletti. Equal parts. Orange twist.

Yum.

And last but not least, a special holiday lemonade made with honey for my granddaughter.
September 25, 2025 at 2:13 AM
And a Yellow Jacket, sort of a Bee's Knees livened up with Yellow Chartreuse. This was yum.
