My sister is raising funds to get another service dog for my BIL. He was wounded in Iraq, but w/ Babe's help, he earned a college degree, helped the St Louis homeless, now helps veterans navigate college. Babe passed & Bill needs help to get another service dog. TY for helping!

I used to believe that kids would love reading after reading books in English class, and then I realized what we required was limited and musty. Now I try to encourage reading whenever, however, because that is the real win. Let them read. Let them choose often. Empower readers with choice.

I've been saying this for 15 yrs, based on what I was seeing/see daily in my classroom, and I'm glad the research is seeing it. Now let's do something about it.

If you haven't read this award winner by Vashti Harrison, definitely put it on your list for 2025. I love this book and it deserves every award. My friend @paulwhankins.bsky.social taught me the value of using all the books in HS Eng classrooms, not just grade level.

I do not know how many books I read this yr. Book goals make me feel like a failure, so I stopped using them yrs ago. It's OK to just read and enjoy a book. It's OK if life is crazy and you can't read a book. I'm an Eng teacher and sometimes only read student essays. I have dreams of reading books.
