A pleasure to visit Kat and Iain’s gas free home with @paulsweeney.bsky.social Supported to upgrade their Victorian terraced house by @locohome.bsky.social with ScotGov grant and loan. Result - warm, healthy home, lower energy use, emissions slashed, local supply chains supported.

Investing in upgrading Scotland’s homes isn’t just about net zero - it will tackle fuel poverty, improve health through better air quality, support energy security AND generate economic growth. So many positive outcomes for hundreds of thousands of households across the country.
Really interesting report. Notable point early on in the report:
"The cost of no action would substantially exceed the cost of mitigation as it would increase temperatures as well as risk Scotland being left behind in the adoption of new technological advances." 1/2
We have published our Fiscal Sustainability Perspectives paper considering how climate change mitigation could affect the Scottish Government’s fiscal sustainability. Read it here: bit.ly/46hZaFV
This thread summarises some key points from the report. 1/4

👏 Extra £20m @scottishgovernment.bsky.social
funding for Warmer Homes Scotland is excellent news - the programme is transforming lives and this will enable it to continue doing so over the winter months. Not only that, but it's helping build the jobs & skills we need over coming years. Win-win

Additional £20m @scottishgovernment.bsky.social funding for Warmer Homes Scotland is excellent news - Scotland’s flagship fuel poverty programme is transforming lives and this will enable it to continue doing so over the winter months.
We welcome today's @scottishgovernment.bsky.social announcement of £20 million extra funding for Warmer Homes Scotland this year - this will go some way towards protecting the most vulnerable households, whilst creating job and training opportunities that will serve us well in the years ahead.

There are similar projects to this one here in Scotland too eg Lar Housing Trust mid market rent project in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, delivering clean, affordable heating from ground source heat pump.
We're seeing more and more myth-busting examples of heat pumps providing affordable heating. This is a great one - 100 year old block of flats with more than 80 flats now being warmed by ground source heat pumps in central London.
