Excellent talk by @rebeccasear.bsky.social at @ishpssb2025.bsky.social on maintenance of scientific racism in contemporary academic literature.

Academic journals play a role in platforming scientific racism (eg failure to retract articles using fradulent 'national IQ dataset').

Excellent talk by Cora Stuhrmann @monoclemind.bsky.social on the history of the term 'biological determinism' within the human sociobiology debates.

S J Gould, who coined the term, eventually wrote The Mismeasure of Man as a critique of biological determinism.

Great talk by Rose Gatfield-Jeffries @ishpssb2025.bsky.social on the history of studies of female dominance hierarchies.

What was the early work on female hierarchies, and how were they viewed by human sociobiologists and feminist critics of sociobiology?

Nice talk by Amanda Corris @ishpssb2025.bsky.social on affordances in ecological psychology.

The speaker highlighted "the active role the organism plays in shaping its own developmental and... evolutionary trajectories though its cognitive behaviour."

Interesting talk by @guicogsci.bsky.social on structuralism and functionalism in psychology and philosophy.

For example, do researchers zoom in (evolutionary psychology) or zoom out (radical embodied cognitive science) when asking about the human mind?

Nice talk @ishpssb2025.bsky.social by Matilde Lequin, who critiqued the usefulness of the term 'anatomically modern humans'.

Useful observation by @enzaspinapolice.bsky.social that a simplistic and problematic 'man the hunter' stereotype was propagated by popular science (e.g. Audrey, Morris) and was less explicit in original academic literature.

Interesting talk by @andrameneganzin.bsky.social and Matteo Bedetti on the controversial claim for burials by Homo naledi.

What does it mean to meet (or fail to meet) evidential standards, and what happens when communication of findings proceeds peer evaluation?

Great start to @ishpssb2025.bsky.social with an interesting talk on induction risk and speculation by @adrian-currie.bsky.social.

Public interest amplifies inductive risk, particularly where the likelihood of accuracy is low and consequences of the science are high.

Next talk at #ehbea2025 by Willem Church, questioning whether or not ancient DNA data can help with reconstructions of kinship and marriage patterns (e.g. patrilocal/matrilocal). @heidicolleran.bsky.social

Nice talk at #ehbea2025 by @jaeggiadrian.bsky.social on a new approach to comparative methods (generalised dynamic phylogenetic models), which can be implemeted in 'coevolve' package in R.

Evidence from Sylvie Borau at #ehbea2025 that pro-environmental engagement differs between genders: women exhibited more pro-environmental attitudes than men, whereas men were more likely than women to share (and perhaps criticise) environmental messages on social media.

Interesting talk by @bridgetwaller.bsky.social at #ehbea2025 on facial expressions: most of the 'basic' expressions of emotions don't occur regularly in everyday social interactions (except 'happiness'), which means we need to think about how they're being used in research and diagnostic situations.
