Working on Soul Shuffler — a card game about collecting souls. 😈

Random thoughts on games/anime/manga/etc.
Thanks a lot!
Switch port is in the works, and Mac support comes down to me getting a proper MacOS machine at some point since my old MacBook broke — I know it's not impossible to work around, but making builds and properly testing would be quite a pain that way, at least with our game engine. 😅

Tutorial text noticeable, but non-intrusive and skippable. Any in-depth rules and mechanics can be covered by an additional rulebook + a set of extra challenge "levels" showcasing important stuff if need be.

A mix of everything. The basics covered by a scripted battle with no unnecessary handholding, with pre-determined draws, opponent moves etc. designed to significantly limit player options — they're free to screw around, but don't have the choice to break the tutorial sequencing.

So true. At least in Guild Wars 2 I can buy more inventory/bank space with in-game currency, some earned *thanks to hoarding*, so it doesn't feel as bad! :D

For sure, though I doubt that'll happen anytime soon, unfortunately — when your goal comes down to re-creating one art form's experiences in another from the start, copying the "design choices" (e.g. narrative structure) becomes an inevitability unless you consciously make an effort to avoid it. 😅

Very good points!

K-dramas sit between anime and western shows for me, longer episodes with easy to digest beats within, which works for games too.

We've been trying out a similar approach and I feel like this is the way for most games that aren't AAA blockbusters mimicking the mainstream movies.

We beat Puzzles for Clef last night! Here's the various notes I took for myself while playing. My personal fave is the logic puzzle (2nd pic, far right) - partly because I love logic puzzles, and partially because my solving of it looks absolutely like the scribblings and ravings of a mad person.
