Is Bluesky the way to go, or just another hype? Let's find out...
Sometimes luck simply walks into the frame. Still, it requires knowing where and when to go to get the most photogenic compositions and conditions.

The Netherlands, November 8, 2025.

Last night's short, but naked-eye visible Aurora show. The fog blanket made for an atmosphere I hadn't captured in an Aurora shot for well over a year, so it made for a very welcome addition.

The north of the Netherlands, 20:26 UTC.

Last night's Aurora was mostly invisible from the Netherlands, mainly due to cloud cover. However, September 2nd got me a series of shots I'm unlikely to ever capture again, featuring the Northern Lights, a thunderstorm and airglow.

Far from being the most spectacular Aurora of Solar Cycle 25, September 2nd's event had its moments. However, the true showstopper was a tiny thunderstorm. Bonus: even a bit of airglow made an appearance.

The Wadden Sea, NL.

Even the weakest, tiniest thunderstorms can produce an incredible beauty. The Dutch coast, last night.

Asteroid 2023 CX1, which fell over France on February 13, 2023, photographed from the Netherlands. It was only the seventh asteroid to have been discovered before impact. All I had to do was drive to clear skies and a nice foreground close to home to capture it.

One year since the biggest Aurora show I've seen so far. With recent months being outright boring when it comes to solar activity, or pretty much anything else worth taking pictures of, I'm in need of a fix like this.

Étretat, France, May 10-11, 2024.

One of a few cold, foggy sunrises at the start of meteorological spring, captured at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kinderdijk.

We're currently in yet another winter which isn't particularly rich in wintry weather in the Netherlands. Two years ago, though, on the German mountain of Feldberg in the Black Forest, a perfect combination of snow, frost, fog and sunlight existed on a cold Sunday morning.

The incredible October 10-11 G4 Aurora. Bright reds and greens could be seen with the naked eye, and this shot wasn't even taken during one of the strongest substorms. Goes to show the Netherlands can be a great for watching the Northern Lights during a solar maximum.

Porcelain fungus is found on the rotting remnants of beech trees, and the massive trunks and branches surrounding these mushrooms are reaching the end of their long lives one by one, making way for the more subtle photogenic details of the forest.

Right, first post on Bluesky, just to have something here to look at while I check this place out.

Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) and the core of the Milky Way over Roques de García, Tenerife, on October 22nd of this year.
