I called my republican rep and wrote this note for another (because apparently Republicans prevent direct communications from Americans outside of their immediate districts):
Dear Representative Smucker: would you please pass this message along to your colleague Representative Fitzpatrick? Thank you, Rep Fitzptrick, for thinking about all Pennsylvanians, including the people you personally care about who will suffer if the Megabill passes, and then voting no. Thank you for reading the bill and, once learning that the proposed cuts to social services will negatively affect more than 1 in 4 Pennsylvanians (even Pres. Trump doesn't want that!), voting no. Thank you for opposing ballooning our national debt by more than three trillion dollars, and voting no. Please, PLEASE stand strong for us! Please continue to oppose this horrible bill, and VOTE NO! Thank you for your courage. Sincerely, a concerned Pennsylvanian, veteran, mother of an active duty soldier, wife of a retired federal employee, sister to a disabled sibling

What I WANTED to scream at Rep. Lloyd Smucker is "You fucking feckless coward!!!"

Instead, (thanks to everyone who offered scripts, which I used liberally to create mine) I left this message on the congressman's voicemail:
I am calling to urge Representative Smucker to vote NO on the Big Megabill this time around. I am deeply concerned about several aspects of this bill, especially: The potential cuts to social safety net programs like Medicaid and Medicare which could harm more than 1 in 4 in my community; add SNAP and that's a whole lot more needless hardship. I also question the lack of transparency and rushed process in considering such a far-reaching piece of legislation. This bill does not serve the best interests of Pennsylvanians. It serves the top few wealthiest people and hurts the rest. It weakens education. It weakens the courts. It does nothing to make Pennsylvania or America better. I myself, personally, and many people that I know and care about including my disabled sister and elderly mother will be directly harmed by this bill. I ask the Representative to please think about all the people HE cares about, like his own children and nieces and nephews and aging friends and relatives, who will suffer the consequences of this horrible legislation, and to please, PLEASE oppose it and vote no.

Yesterday's letter to Target CEO Brian Cornell:
Dear Mr. Cornell, I write to express my utter disappointment and revulsion that Target has ended its DEI program. This appears to be blatant capitulation in advance to the racist democracy-busting Trump administration's abhorrent policies, and I find Target's actions in this regard to be cowardly and repugnant. Until that shocking announcement about Target, I enjoyed shopping at Target stores: the friendly and well-trained staff made me feel welcome and appreciated as a customer. No longer! I just shopped at Costco for the first time in years. I have canceled my Target Circle account and I will not step foot in a Target store or spend a dime there until I can be assured that diversity and inclusion (of your employees AND customers) is again a priority at your organization. I will not shop someplace where so many people in my community might now not be hired to work! Target senior leadership should be as ashamed of themselves as I am disgusted with them.
