So yeah, that's my mini theory on why Viola doesn't/won't have an Infernal contract. It's just an interesting idea to me, especially from a storytelling standpoint. (Imagining how her mom would feel about it too...oooh the fic potential.🫠)

(Not to mention the hellish afterlife that a contract would promise, and after seeing Bayo and Luka get dragged into it I'm sure she'd be like NOPE!😅)

Therefore, I doubt she would like the idea of living forever and losing the things she values. Hell, she already went through a situation of losing EVERYTHING she knows and it was devastating as is...being immortal would arguably be worse.

I think it would have to do with her upbringing. Viola wouldn't have grown up in the same isolated society as Bayo and Jeanne, meaning she would've interacted with the world much more than they did, forming connections with more people and places.

While not confirmed, it is very plausible that a witch's immortality is directly tied to their Infernal contract. This could be the reason she doesn't have a contract now, and why she may not want one later either. But why would Viola not want to be immortal?
October 25, 2025 at 10:57 PM
It's easy to guess that she hasn't yet learned to forge a contract because she's still an amateur witch. That's reasonable, but I think there could be a deeper reason, which is: she doesn't want to be immortal.

Infernal contracts have been established as essentially a rite of passage for most (if not all) Umbra Witches. Every witch we have seen to date has contracted a specific demon, with Viola being the exception.

So we know how Viola has Cheshire as her companion, but isn't officially contracted to him. It is stated that Cheshire willingly stays with her and therefore doesn't require a contract, but I'm theorizing that even if Viola gets the chance to make an official contract, she won't.

That's all the headcanons I have for now. Just some fun ideas to fill in the gaps of Viola's life and I may add more in the future.💜

(Although, I do wonder if Cheshire realized that Viola's mom was technically Cereza. Did he think she was the same Cereza he knew, or was she different enough that he knew she wasn't? We likely won't get an answer for that, but it's food for thought.)
October 17, 2025 at 12:53 AM
It is stated that it's not certain WHY Cheshire stayed with Viola, but it's easy to assume that she may have reminded him of his Cereza.
October 17, 2025 at 12:53 AM
So Viola attempted to summon a demon (and she DID), but like Cereza, she failed to use her hair as a medium and so the demon (that we assume is the same one that Cereza summoned) went into her Cheshire charm.

[Meeting Cheshire]

Criminally, there's no official info about how Viola met Cheshire, but I believe it was likely similar to how Cereza met him in Origins, i.e. demon summoning gone wrong.

So they didn't tell Viola about her Umbran heritage and kept their own status as witches hidden from her until she was old enough to keep the secret. Although, I could imagine Bayo/Jeanne subtly teaching Viola things that would benefit her witch training later, such as the Enochian language.
October 17, 2025 at 12:53 AM
I'm sure the last thing Bayo (or Jeanne) wanted was little Viola going around saying that her mummy/auntie is a WITCH (it'd be funny, but embarrassingly awkward for them.😅)
October 17, 2025 at 12:53 AM
Therefore, Viola wouldn't have been raised in a secluded place surrounded by others practicing the dark arts. She would be interacting with the world and people much more, so it wouldn't have been wise to let her know of her Umbran heritage or the dark arts from a young age.
October 17, 2025 at 12:53 AM
While not confirmed, we can take clues that Viola was mostly likely born in the 21st century, a point by which the entirety of the Umbra are (usually) extinct, with the obvious exceptions of Bayo and Jeanne.
October 17, 2025 at 12:53 AM
We know that the Umbra were a close-knit society that stayed isolated from the rest of the world, and thus they were able to practice their dark arts without outside interference. This is the society Bayo and Jeanne were born in, but (likely) not Viola.

(Like her accent IS American by default, but sometimes she's thinking of how her mom pronounces words and it just comes out of her mouth.😂)
