Lorewise, everything I've seen is so depressing and miserable it wraps around to comedic in the kind of absurdist way 40k does - so I can see how other people would like that, especially if they read "WWI trench war" instead of "nazi" from the aesthetics.

I don't like Krieg, so grain of salt on my response here, but I've read they were actually aiming for WWI trench warfare aesthetics. Their lore does do a good job of really embodying the "sacrifice millions for the sake of billions" theme 40k has going on.

That's the visual vibe, yeah.

it was the lighter flicking post, obvs.

For some personal context, I am not white (asian), but I am white passing, and multiple times in my life people have switched from gringo -> homie or something else on finding out.

Again, I don't think this is something universal, but it is very common in my geographical area.

Rather delightfully, I saw someone get into a fight on bsky about this. His position was explicitly what you said: he was deliberately making a political statement and actively looking to offend/provoke Americans.

(It also became clearer later in the thread this meant *fellow* Americans).

I completely believe you on the meaning of the term and how you mean it. But I'm also pretty sure it could be used differently when used by a minority population facing a whole bunch of racism, etc etc..
November 28, 2025 at 7:19 AM
I've seen a lot of pushback from South Americans on this and I really am not trying to tell them what they mean. Among other things, I wouldn't be shocked if it had slightly different meanings in a place where you're a vulnerable minority or dealing with racism.
November 28, 2025 at 7:17 AM
I think it probably varies. I know gringo just means foreigner and I'm sure people can say it without meaning something bad implicitly, but I also know I've encountered it as an implicit insult throughout CA.
November 28, 2025 at 7:17 AM
I'm just telling you how I've encountered it in the areas I live in, which also happen to be different than where you're from. I'm not trying to tell you what you mean, and I know the term means "foreigner." I'm just reporting what I've encountered throughout CA.

Oh, excellent eye. Well done!

Her left eyebrow is weird. That's the only one I can see.
November 27, 2025 at 7:54 AM
Like I think I took 2 or 3 just today. Even the pose.
November 27, 2025 at 7:50 AM
Yeah I think I have like a 1000 photos just like this of my wife. It is 100% a husband-photographing-wife photo.
November 27, 2025 at 7:49 AM
I stared at this for a while. I think the only tell is that she has a weird eyebrow, but that could also just be a weird eyebrow.
November 27, 2025 at 7:40 AM
That is if anything more articulate than a lot of what I've seen.
November 27, 2025 at 3:00 AM
you are in for a world of delights if you get really into it. all kinds of different things you can put in or dip them in.
November 27, 2025 at 2:40 AM
It really does sort of feel like every single negative stereotype and rumor wrapped up in one.
November 27, 2025 at 2:20 AM
this stuff is genuinely so bad I can't articulate anything cogent to say about it.
November 27, 2025 at 12:04 AM
I've seen a couple people say gringos is not derogatory but as someone from CA who's lived in heavily Spanish speaking areas my entire life I don't think I've ever encountered it not being derogatory, and not really meaning "white".
