Had something similar happen with a family member the other day. I don't open up about my PTSD and depression to family because they have proven time and time again they can't be trusted to not gossip.

It's hard even when you know some people don't do it with intentional malice. Either through stupidity or their own version of how the world works or just being blind to things.

I always try to choose to turn it inward because I've seen what happens if I let it slip out.
