Honestly I don’t even need to look at alternative AU stuff to judge it, the GNY manga and Blaze In The Deep Blue don’t really struggle from these problems at all. Both of those explored their fantasy settings creatively without issues, so why couldn’t the anime? It has to be deliberate, somehow.
