Revelation is more perilous than revolution (Nabokov)
Fintech / Open Banking / PSD2&3 / Stuff
The right time timing is always a combination of opportunity costs akin to gambling on being Goldilocks
Too early
Too late
Just Right
It’s a bear of a thing, and it’s a never ending game

There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch
Just like there ain’t no such thing as free banking
Because somewhere someone is subsidising the cost by paying the price
Ain’t nothing free in this world, especially love and money

Curiosity is a moral virtue

And the limits of innovation all depend on the liability model: who pays when something goes wrong

At the end of the day, everything depends on who pays; sadly that doesn’t always satisfy our curiosity

We magnify that which we praise

Want to encourage more from team members?

Recognise their contributions

Recognising others’ contributions fosters respect, appreciation, loyalty, and - here’s the kicker - future contributions

Magnifying = maximising

Technology is a tool, not a religion (AMEN!)

The maxim of simplicity being the essence of elegance holds water here: building less, while building it better is wisdom

A shiny ✨ tool isn’t the point, but the shiny thing it enables you to build is

Embedded finance will be accelerated by smart data use cases
This is why tech stack infrastructure interoperability is such a big deal
Data sharing models are destined for embedded finance, and are exactly why the revenue/market share gains are shifting (and yes, it’s a bit of a zero sum game)

George is a legend.
Life is surprisingly accommodating when we face it knowing what we want and what we’re willing to do for it.
That said, be careful what you ask for AND ask for it to arrive in a particular way and shape.
That last bit is where it gets tricky…

All bodies of water - streams, rivers, estuaries - all lead to the ocean
There’s an inherent longing for the vastness of it, there will always be a need to build ships
Whether or not those ships are built for your organisation is a matter of how connected your team is to your intentions

Failure to prepare is the same as preparing to fail
Also known as the ‘art of the deal’ in current - ahem - trade war negotiations
Clearly the rest of the world has had their red line meetings, and one admin hasn’t
Don’t be that admin 😅

This is why pedantry and semantics matter in helping some folks understand not just the words, but the meaning…
And I mean ‘meaning’ in the ‘these are the consequences’ context

“the risk you left them with… is bigger than the risk you didn’t take…”
Just like the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is now
Funny how as time goes on, risk increases when we fail to make critical changes
In both our tech stacks AND our personal lives

Given the largest market in the world just launched their real time payment infrastructure LAST YEAR, and still don’t have a common technical standard for A2A payments… global collaboration and harmonization is far into the future
But hey, cards & cash have avoided disintermediation so far …

Meddlers always meddle for selfish purposes, always.
They’re also energy vampires.
And their knock on effect is actually a big deal in the cumulative. They’re worse than the sum of their selfishness.

Self awareness isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity to be resilient
Also helps to know & live your core values each and every step of the journey (detours from those values are expensive lessons)

Commitment vs Involvement
It’s analogous to marriage vs dating
Big transformation projects require marriage, where divorce is costly and all stakeholders suffer from its dissolution
It’s easier to fight for it than walk away
But seems like we’d rather tinder our way through most stuff…

Most profound leadership lesson I learned was being shown I’d neglected to look behind me
Behind, got the front and peripheral covered
Behind
@ledaglyptis.bsky.social seems like that lesson applies to legacy tech stacks too
Mind you I learned this lesson some 20 years ago…wisdom comes with age 😉

Fashion is all about trends, it’s fast, it changes constantly and is at the whim of the crowd.
Style, on the other hand, is about deliberate choice, relevance to the individual, and has a consistent theme.
Me thinks lil Gideon has a sense about style when it comes to sticking to his guns.
