i remember people talking about battlefield 5 when it got rt and how you would be able to use a reflection in a puddle to see around a corner or prop and use it to your advantage.

do any games actually design around this yet?

what to you personally is fun with the current implementations of ray tracing?

what are some games and settings you recommend?

to me, my enjoyment with rt went up about as much as i remember it with something like hairworks.

all of that being said, i haven’t been following discourse around the topic and I don’t think i’m in whatever group Alex is talking to.

but i have been fairly disappointed by gpus of the past few years, and i don’t think im alone, and that just so happens to coincide with the push for raytracing

for me it’s a fun extra to play around with but i’d never consider it to be a must have for any games i’ve played with it on

id consider myself a tech enthusiast and got a 2060, 3080, and 4090 around their launch and have played with different implementations of RT at those times and its always been pretty meh for me.

at best it looks slight better and loses a ton of performance.

at worse it’s noisy / has artifacts

will a line get drawn? is raytracing actually the future?

comparing the evolution of directx or z buffer or whatever to raytracing seems a little out there

why is it wrong to want devs to spend more money to give more options but fine to want consumers to spend more money on replacing their hardware
