Woo! If you do plan to eat I recommend checking at least one field guide, but these ones don't have dangerous lookalikes, to my knowledge. There is a lookalike that's edible, Xerocomellus atropurpureus, which is essentially the same but with a smoother cap. I wonder about the edible origins too...

I've had these before! Not my favourite edible, but kind of reminiscent of cooked zucchini for some reason. 6/10
