A friend also said they'll continue following the team regardless where they end up, even if in Nashville or SLC. Personally I've already said I'll quit following pro sports altogether because the Royals are the only team I have an interest in. I don't even really care about the Chiefs anymore.

I've been following the issue on KC media outlets and there's always lots of "Let them leave" and "don't let the door slam you on the way out" comments on every single post. It's concerning with just how unpopular they are in their *own* hometown. ...

Ah. Unfortunately I see it becoming more likely, although I'm still hoping they find a way to keep them in the metro - even if that means moving into Kansas. I see funding the project as the hardest obstacle to overcome. There's also the entire perception part of it, though.

You won't support them if they leave, or if they stay?
January 3, 2026 at 10:32 PM
We'll see. By the sounds of it, nor will the people of Missouri or Kansas. If the two states get beat out, it'll be just another MLB team KC would've lost - and they most likely won't get another one. Just like how KC won't get that second NFL team many are wanting (and even thinking is possible.)
January 3, 2026 at 10:17 PM
The question is: Will that place be in the KC metro or a new city, like Nashville (though a friend suggested not likely thanks to the NFL Titans), Charlotte, Salt Lake City, Portland or another city nobody's even mentioned yet.
January 3, 2026 at 10:14 PM
True, but the Royals are not like the Chiefs, and the KS legislature might not reopen the window for STAR bonds. Doubt Missouri legislators would take a risk on the backlash the deal would get from across the state.
January 3, 2026 at 10:13 PM
All it will take is another city to announce a deal too good to pass up, just like Kansas did w/ the Chiefs. The Cardinals and Rockies would fill the vacuum, and by the sound of KC metro people on local media the Royals will hardly be lost. I would not be at all surprised if this ends in relocation.
January 3, 2026 at 10:12 PM
If I were Sherman, I'm not so sure I'd want to stay in KC. The smallest market in MLB and continuing to get smaller with every perception issue in the KC metro. They could go to a larger market, start with a clean slate without the politics/drama/failures, and a new stadium to boot. ...
January 3, 2026 at 10:12 PM
That'll be the hardest part. They haven't even selected a site, yet they're already making mistakes and losing public support over the matter.
January 3, 2026 at 10:06 PM
Plus The K would eventually need to go since it (and possibly Arrowhead too) suffers from "concrete cancer" and other maintenance issues. Either way it'll be just as expensive, but is probably the least controversial option.
January 3, 2026 at 10:05 PM
Unfortunately Sherman has made it clear they're not playing at The K after 2030. They don't want to be there because it's in an underdeveloped part of town. While staying at TSC makes sense for the Royals, especially now without the Chiefs there, it's not what they want. ...
January 3, 2026 at 10:05 PM
Don't get me wrong - I want the Royals to stay put in the KC metro for decades to come. But things don't look good based on the comments I've seen from people on both sides of the state line and I'm worried the situation looks a lot like what happened to the Oakland A's. Idk how it'll work out.
January 3, 2026 at 9:47 PM
I don't know which way Clay County would go. Following the Chiefs, who have faced major backlash after pursuing public funds without voter approval, is the only remaining option otherwise and it's the least popular. It'll kill even more goodwill in the KC metro toward the Royals. ...
January 3, 2026 at 9:47 PM
How will they fund it since the Kansas STAR bonds deadline has passed, and it doesn't appear likely they'll extend the window. Missouri isn't likely to fund the project. Kansas City and Jackson County voters don't want the Royals downtown, and an increasing number are just done with them anyways. ..
January 3, 2026 at 9:47 PM
I wish the stadium saga would end. Sherman & Co need to give us fans a break and either announce where they're focusing their attention or if they're relocating out of KC...

I think the Royals moving to Kansas would be best for everyone involved. I don't think MO will help them pay for a new stadium, anyways. They're not a "priority" here like the Chiefs or Cardinals. (I don't think governments should subsidize stadiums/sports teams. But they'll go where the $$$ is.)
December 5, 2025 at 11:12 PM
I thought the Hunts/Chiefs have already said they’re not moving. I doubt the Chiefs leave Missouri… The MO GOP will bend over backwards to keep them here.
December 5, 2025 at 1:48 AM
Agreed, but I wonder what would happen then. I see KS as being more likely to do it, for the Chiefs and/or the Royals. I can see MO bending over backwards for the Chiefs, but unfortunately can't see the same happening for the Royals. Double standards. I think KS would be better for the Royals.
December 5, 2025 at 12:55 AM
Well, there's also Portland, SLC, etc. But, as mentioned, I think the most likely case is they move to KS. Which, as I also mentioned, would be beneficial for everyone. KS is much more likely to help them pay for a new stadium, they'd get a professional sports team, and most Royals fans live in KS.
