If you're on HRT/other meds, keep a list with you and demand your medication. If a friendly "official" meets with you in detention, get a business card. ICE can and will lie to get info and use it against you. If ICE agents/other officials abuse you, get badge numbers and remember descriptions.

If you fear persecution if you're deported, you can say "I'm afraid to go to my country. I fear persecution and death because I am trans/GNC/nonbinary/etc." If it applies, you can also say you're a victim of crime/trafficking and want to apply for a U or T visa. Rehearse saying these things.

If you fear being persecuted if deported, tell immigration officers immediately. You may need to explain it many times.

If you have a pending immigration application, keep your immigration papers close and you can try to explain to ICE agents that you have an attorney and pending trial. If ICE tries to get you to sign something, don't do it. ICE can lie to you to get you to consent to being deported.

If ICE is homophobic/transphobic toward you (and they likely will be), continue to say nothing and not respond except to say you don't consent and you want a lawyer. And don't resist arrest, either. ICE will treat any tiny movement as a threat. It'll be hard, but try to stay calm.

Remember, ICE is allowed to lie to you to get into your home. Don't open the door or consent to anything without seeing a warrant. And if ICE forces their way in, say nothing except you do not consent to this and you want a lawyer.

If you're out and about with young children and/or elderly relatives, make a plan for them should you get taken. We know it sucks to think about, but it's better to have a plan and not need it. If you have a lawyer, share their number with friends/family who can contact the lawyer if you're taken.

If DHS (Department of Homeland Security) has records of your address and/or work history, give a photocopy to a US citizen THAT YOU TRUST. Same thing applies if you've been issued an A number by ICE: Share it with a citizen you trust.
