Clinging to hope for the world. Excited to say that (Kiss and Don't Tell) my 3rd novel in the 'Shadows over the Solent' series is out already; an educational psychotherapist, walker, reader, grandmother, mother, and rager against liars in politics
Thank you. A bit more of my story. My 1st novel Bombweed was about WW2 women written by my mother but unpublished. I inherited it in 2005. Too long, too many characters, too many words but a core story. My adaptation was published in 2018.I will be talking at D Day Museum, Portsmouth in January.

I saw Roland Kirk a few times, years ago... loved Ronnies. One time I bumped into him on the stairs as I came back from the ladies and he was coming down. Never forgotten! I describe him in a chapter of my 2nd novel. Also was lucky enough to see Thelonius Monk and Dizzy and others. Must return.

I vividly remember seeing Roland Kirk at Ronnie's
as well as other great musicians like Thelonius Monk and Gillespie. I was very much younger then! I also wrote a chapter in my second novel describing him playing at the club! (in 2nd of my trilogy 'Shadows Over the Solent', Silverwood books .)

That happened to me ! Started a short story, sitting in my kitchen during covid lockdown, about children born in wartime Portsmouth, echoing the themes in The Snow Queen. It kept growing and became Kissed to Death , a full novel in 2021. Then it needed a sequel.

I don't know the answer to that but I am about to reread my first book of the 'Shadows Over the Solent' trilogy as I need to choose which part to read at a gathering of local authors. As an ex teacher who always loved reading out loud, the problem us which bit!

'Kiss and Don't Tell' is out. So now it's a trilogy. Overall title 'Shadows over the Solent'. From the actual shadows of planes and bombs from the sky in the blitz, to emotional shadows in the aftermath. Children born grow up with an inheritance of psychological and physical damage left by conflict.

I am looking forward to visiting Chippenham on Saturday, to sell books at The Lions Christmas Bazaar. Chippenham was a haven for my mother and sister in 1944 as they escaped bombs in Portsmouth. Mum was given such care on the farm where I was born. Chippenham appears in all three of my novels.

The launch event in North London for my new novel, 'Kiss and Don't Tell' was delightful. This book is the third in the series 'Shadows Over the Solent'; Southern England during and after WW2. Children growing up in the shadow of wartime trauma, and unexplained absences.

Ho ho! What would you shelve my new book under? The three novels are now under the overall title of 'Shadows over the Solent' and I would be happy to call by sometime.(I was on BBC Radio Solent on Monday Katie Martin's Morning Show talking about them.)

20 years since we inherited mother's unpublished novel about WW2, written in 1947(see pic) when she was 31. She called it 'While the War Went On. We adapted, edited, called it 'Bombweed'. It's now bk one of 'Shadows over the Solent', Bk 2 is 'Kissed to Death'. Bk 3 is 'Kiss and Don't Tell'.
September 4, 2025 at 7:15 PM
Very good advice. I hope my new novel does that! I tried!
'Kiss and Don't Tell' is the third in the 'Shadows over the Solent 'series.

Must reread Pat Barker's trilogy. Fiction drawn from real history. She does it so well. Also love Jane Gardam's 'Old Filth' trilogy! My new novel, 'Kiss and Don't Tell', is 3rd in series 'Shadows over the Solent'. War and its aftermath on the UK south coast, and its impact on next generation.

Excited .. my 3rd novel in the 'Shadows over the Solent' series is out. A distraction from dire state of democracy? But sometimes history can remind or even teach.... 'Bombweed' is wartime, 'Kissed to Death' and 'Kiss and Don't Tell' look at lives of children born in the shadow of wartime trauma.
August 28, 2025 at 12:23 PM
Following the previous books ...'Bombweed' and 'Kissed to Death'
