Our second lecture on auditory memory culture came from Thomas Sebastian Köhn (Lüneburg), who explored sonic spaces and practices of remembrance of the Shoa in Germany in the approaching 'post-witness era'.

Friday: Anne Peiter (La Réunion, via Zoom) examines the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda through the lens of the autobiographical novel "Le Convoi" by survivor Béata Mairesse, and the importance of sound for remembering in the now, where before and after collapse.

On Thursday afternoon, Raphael Börger (Potsdam) explored the listening app Endel, its sound and listening practices, and critically examines the 'science' behind such apps.

... a few more pics came in... : Thursday began with Jennifer Marine joining us online to give us an insight into her research project on the visualisation of sound in Margaret Watts-Hughes' Voice Figures as sound art avant la lettre.

The final talk comes from Sven Boxberg (Bonn) & Lily Hußmann (Köln), who show us how the performance, presentation and even the sound of popular music – from beat to glam – changed with the introduction of colour in British and German music television.

Lukas Iden (Halle) and Sophia Tobis (Münster) take us through the ravey, cosy and vibey soundscapes of contemporary hyper-pop, reflecting on the critical potential of these sounds

Using the voice of jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald as a starting point, Malte Kobel (London) reflects on sonic materialism and its limitations

In the second keynote on Thursday, Viktoria Tkaczyk (Berlin) reconstructs the sonic creation of a global imagined community through wire recording technology and the delayed radio broadcasts of the BBC's Empire Service in the 1930s

Our next international speaker, Elisabeth Salverda (Ghent), gave us an insight into her research on the Brussels organ builder and 'magician of acoustics' Georges Cloetens and his sonic inventions
