For w2 workers, you could wait to have sufficient amount withdrawn for entire year on the last paycheck of the year. Self employed have to pay at least quarterly.

Sorry, but that is false. An underpayment penalty is levied when the taxpayer didn't pay enough of their estimated taxes (like for self-employed) or didn't have enough withheld from their wages. "Individuals must pay either 100% of last year's tax or 90% of this year's tax."

There is a penalty if you don't have enough withdrawn though. So be careful.
If I recall correctly, it has to be at least as much as the prior year's tax or 90% of current year's tax.
And for self-employed, rules are different. Consult a professional!
