Located in Central Wisconsin.
I adore Penstemons. One of my fondest memories is stumbling across a previously unrecorded patch of the Great Plains endemic Penstemon oklahomensis on my rental property a few years ago.

Begonia longiciliata ‘sizemoreae’ is settling in well. The new leaf has the faintest touch of blue iridescence.

Begonia ferox looking absolutely tantalizing. One of my favorite species in my entire collection by far. It does occasionally have some issues unfurling new growth if the humidity goes too low but other than that it’s shockingly unfussy. #houseplants #begonia #rareplants #bloomscrolling #plants

Mixed bag with these Ukrainian Episcia hybrids. Zimyaya Vishnya (right) is growing like mad & looking great. Zhemchuzhinka (left) on the other hand sadly keeps aborting all its growth points for some unknown reason so I’ve had to try taking leaf props.

My variegated rubber tree is finally growing new leaves :). Very nice to see.

Sundews are looking lush. These Drosera omissa x pulchella have been blooming persistently for months & gotten quite dewy & pink under my current lighting. Just reduced intensity today & may cut the photoperiod for a month or two to see if I can induce gemmae production in these & my micranthas.

Some sort of ferns have sprouted up in the sphagnum moss I bought, so that’s interesting. It was harvested off a property in Maine so I guess it’s not too shocking. By the looks of it some flavor of wood fern?

Ukrainian Episcia hybrids are looking lovely. More details in alt text about these individual plants! I quite like them already & eagerly await their further development.

Funny looking little string of hearts flower.

Tiniest little spider I’ve ever seen was hunting on the purple coneflowers today. I’d hazard a guess it’s in the jumper family based on the silhouette & head shape? Not sure on species though.

Native plants in the front beds of the rental are flowering. Nodding onion & purple coneflower.

The area gets a good amount of foot & car traffic so hoping to lead by example. Will take some with us when we leave but definitely leave some behind to hopefully entertain the next renter.

Pygmy sundews have been looking absolutely lush. These are Drosera omissa x pulchella.

Sprouted some Salvia azurea this last week. Will grow these on over the winter into next spring before transplanting I think.

Think I got this female flower on my begonia ferox to accept its own pollen. Not ideal but at least I know the method I used is viable when I start making proper crosses between individual plants.

Monarda bradburiana aka wild bergamot, a very pretty Wisconsin native I see all over the place here. Bought one last year but rodents dug & ate the roots so it didn’t come back. These ones in the Greenway Arboretum are popping off pleasantly right now.

Saw this little cottontail enjoying himself in the backyard today. The neighbors have been using a push mower which the clover seems to vastly prefer. Hopefully all the flowers will be enough for them to leave my wild strawberry plants alone…

So I went foraging for blackcaps this last weekend & omfg I FOUND A PATCH OF THEM THAT’S BLONDE???

They’re pure blackcaps too, morphological identical to all the normal dark ones I found except for fruit color.

Will be going back to collect a bunch of fruit & hopefully can extract & sprout seed-

Episcia cupreata has blossomed again.

Goes without saying that bombing another sovereign nation is bad but to also do so without the approval of congress? Absolutely unthinkable we’ve come to a point where this is possible.

Saw a very lovely Bombus bimaculatus lady humming about some Virginia waterleaf yesterday afternoon.

Ended up starting a small compost bin out of a Tupperware bin, tossed lots of half rotted leaves in there & then started putting food scraps in while layering more leaves on top both fresh & dry. Hopefully things go well, would be nice to offer to folks & use myself especially.

Philodendron joepii is such a fascinating species. It has strangely shaped leaves & highly productive extrafloral nectaries.

From what I’ve heard there’s only one known clone of the entire species & it hasn’t been found again, hopefully that changes in the future because this is an amazing species.

Saw what appears to be some variety of syrphid/hoverfly in the front garden beds today. Nice to see, hopefully if any aphids are lurking these will lay some eggs to take care of it.

It would appear some of my pygmy sundews have already decided to flower despite the consistent photoperiod under lights. I’m certainly not complaining though. Can’t wait to see what the flowers look like on this Drosera omissa x pulchella.
