The Cowichan Nation already released a statement and provided clarity immediately. No one is losing their property.

But you can't run a piece about corporate resource extraction and ecocide and expect to get the same reaction. So you don't make it relatable, you make it rage-bait for people who grew up on stories in which western expansion was a tale of innocent white settlers fending off the Savage Indian.

Running on this paranoid delusion that the oppressed want to put the boot on the other neck, the media conscripts the yeoman attitudes of the footsoldiers of liberal democracy - middle-aged homeowners - because they know that this isn't about homes at the end of the day and it never was.

This isn't reading between the lines, by the way. The subtitle to the National Post article says the quiet part out loud:

"First Nations have said they don't want to seize homes ... but they conceivably could."

I don't think it should be ignored, but for a 60+ year old movie franchise where the lead periodically changes appearances and doesn't get 60 years old, I think a simple acknowledgement without explanation should suffice.

"I thought you died in wherever/whatever."
"That was no time to die."

And we know the country that has a specialty in mass bot trolling 🙃
