There's an interesting subset of Sensibles who are aghast at Labour's immigration politics but maintain a Trappist silence over the genocide-complicity and the concomitant inflammatory lies about Muslims. What could explain this?
October 22, 2025 at 7:38 PM
I think we should acknowledge that it's difficult and perhaps unreasonable to ask British Muslims not to be 'suspicious' of British Jews when the majority of the latter are supporters of the country that is genociding a Muslim population.

You might acknowledge the context that, while other firms may sing about murdering their racial enemies (not sure this is actually true), plenty of Maccabi fans *actually have murdered their racial enemies*. Demanding that the people of Birmingham tolerate them gloating about this is jaw-dropping.

Yeah, nights are still cool enough that AC wouldn't be necessary *if* we lived in much better-designed buildings than many of us actually do. But a lot of London flats are straightforwardly uninhabitable in summer - legit hazardous to health.
October 20, 2025 at 10:14 AM
Do you think it might also be tinged by knowing that some of the Israeli fans on the streets of Birmingham will have recently been murdering children? And the rest of them loudly approve of murdering children?
October 19, 2025 at 10:58 PM
There's a big spectrum between stabbing people and making them feel unwelcome. I don't think people in the 80s had any obligation to smile at white South African tourists either.
October 18, 2025 at 2:56 PM
It's not regrettable if people are hostile to Israelis! This is such a bubble view. Of course civil disorder is bad for entirely general reasons, but normal people aren't disposed to welcome citizens of a country committing genocide with overwhelming public support.
October 18, 2025 at 2:43 PM
No mainstream group believes that. Fascists, hasbara accounts, and journalists (but I'm repeating myself) believe that. There is not some (reachable) bloc of the public anxious to defend the honour of Israelis, let alone Israeli hooligans just back from shooting Arab children.
October 18, 2025 at 1:39 PM
I think that while some, like Starmer, are ideological zionists, others like Ed Davey have simply microwaved their brains on hasbara-saturated social media to the point they think the non-fash British public has warm feelings toward Israel, in the teeth of all polling evidence.
October 17, 2025 at 11:53 PM
It's prima facie absurd to say this has nothing to do with the Maccabi fans' well-documented behaviour, when comparable behaviour often results in bans for other teams. Do you genuinely believe that, or are you just dog-whistling about 'sectarianism' (Muslim Britons playing any role in politics)?
October 17, 2025 at 1:33 PM
At the same time, taking shelter in 'it's complicated' is often a sign of intellectual laziness, ignorance or moral cowardice (while flattering oneself as a nuanced sophisticate). Many questions do in fact have answers!
October 17, 2025 at 12:18 PM
Disagree. There's no reason for the anti-genocide movement to ever draw attention to the pretext for the genocide, especially on a day which will otherwise be all-channels weaponising of that pretext by the genocidaires.
October 5, 2025 at 9:20 PM
In this case it's simpler than that: he's a bigoted Jewish supremacist, as evidenced by many of his posts since the genocide began.
October 5, 2025 at 7:12 PM
There is simply no use for a special word for racism against Jews. All it does is is sacralise, essentialise, and create a hierarchy of racism, as if racism against Jews were a mystical, fundamental force in history, and Jews were uniquely important victims of racism.

I love the idea that you're devastated that pro-Palestine activism hasn't been more effective. Thanks for the good faith advice!
October 3, 2025 at 3:51 PM
It gets complicated though: if the killer just wanted to kill supporters of the genocide, then killing members of an explicitly Zionist synagogue was a pretty good means to that end.
October 3, 2025 at 3:45 PM
Do you mind if I describe your politics as jew-centrism? You certainly haven't had much to say about the genocide our country is facilitating, which is quite strange for a professional political commentator.

I agree, it's just not serious to argue that international law should be applied to western leaders.
August 25, 2025 at 4:55 PM
I guess students take international law and the Genocide Convention seriously, before they grow up into evil cunts like you.
August 25, 2025 at 4:54 PM
The classic balancing act between genocide and not-genocide. The Sensible Moderate option is arming and providing logistical support for a genocide, and Starmer has threaded that needle with aplomb.
August 25, 2025 at 4:52 PM
It's not inactivity, Starmer is knowingly supplying arms being used in a genocide and the British military are providing logistical and intelligence support. I know the media aren't making this clear to you but that's because they're evil too.

different students different amounts of time based on whether their parents could afford a private ADHD/whatever assessment is even worse.
August 23, 2025 at 7:30 PM
At good UK universities, manic time pressure is pretty much the defining characteristic of STEM exams, presumably because most of the students could solve most of the problems given more time. This has always struck me as perverse; but if we're going to do it that way then I do see that giving (1/2)
August 23, 2025 at 7:28 PM
No. Anyone with a public voice should publicly condemn the genocide, because it might help stop the genocide; the voices of Jews carry more weight on the matter (for bad reasons) than the voices of non-Jews; therefore they have a specially pressing obligation to speak out. Seems straightforward.
August 13, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Well, 'do you condemn Hamas?' is the first thing out of any Western journalist's mouth when confronted with a Palestinian, so turnabout seems to me fair play.
