German Wondering
@germanwondering.bsky.social
German fully aware of my people's history watches in awe how societies erode along established patterns. Trying to add literate and global perspectives. Yes, I said trying.

Previously @GermanWondering on X.
Possible. Especially since it becomes increasingly clear that Trump's Politburo has to approve numbers prior to being published. So, the actuals could be worse actually.

... or get "preemptive" pardons from Trump to "protect them from the radical left".

History in all likelihood won't be kind to those individuals.

Realistically though, I do not believe there will be tribunals. It would have to come from within. In the case of NAZI Germany, the tribunals came from outside, established by the Allied Forces after Germany had lost WWII.

💯. Systems are ideologies. Pragmatism is what wins. Yes, Canada is a social democracy. And a beautiful country which should align much more with Europe 😀. US is considered a "flawed democracy" (per EIU) or a constitutional republic.

An example for not democracy but pragmatism that won is Singapore👇
Weekend Book Recommendation:

Lee Kuan Yew provided a masterclass in leadership. Singapore is not a democracy and under strong "hybrid regime" grip. However, that grip is selflessly for the people (~90% home ownership in a diverse population!) and tough on corruption.

Social Democracy vs. Socialism. There's a significant difference. Social Democracies believe in Capitalism, combined with a solid welfare system.

You point out that Asian countries are not converging on full democracies. And people are pretty happy and not too keen on going there. True. A good read which reflects on this is topic below. (I hope I find some time eventually to summarize this one....)

As for democracy, several critical parts missing in Marxist theory: Pluralism vs. One Party, Individual Rights vs. Subordinate to class interests, Checks & Balances vs. Centralized control, etc.

I think some of the ideas were the same. For example, the government's role in creating a society in which everyone is taken care of. For example, wealth distribution as one social aspect. Too rigid though, like taking private property (which kills entrepreneurship)

Thought:

There has probably always been some rot. Now however the rot is accepted by a MAGA cult and carried out in the open for everyone to see.

In 1942, Schumpeter already pointed to the shortcomings of Marx's and Engel's Manifesto, acknowledging the prophetic qualities of their work but highlighting the shortcomings of the simplistic approach, ignoring entrepreneur dynamic, and being too stationary in thought.

💯

#EU:

1) Must defend its territory and democratic values on its own. With the US, without the US or against the US.

2) Must break freak free from unpredictable autocrat dependencies. Russia on energy dependencies. US on economic dependencies. Re-orient to Asia.

3) Lead, don't follow

Jessica Berlin understands geopolitics. Flynn understands how to opportunistically lick the dear leader's boot.
