A recent example: I pasted very long text into Claude, and asked it to identify duplicate parts that can be removed, showing exact quotes.

It hallucinated parts, with quotes, that do not even exist in any input!

I most certainly have 206 files or more that are visible externally - and they have nothing sensitive in them. That's why I share externally...

At this pace, Google will turn into Adobe, deploying dark patterns at an increasing scale

It's small lies like this that start it

Unfortunately no: I shared I observed large demand for this at larger companies.

Sharing this information: but anyone wanting to build a business needs to find companies to sell to ok their own!

Demand is there, the right people can find it easier now than before!

Source of my information on demand existing:

Talked to a few Director+ folks at “traditional” companies (think: 50+ year old, ones like banks, airlines etc with massive tech teams)

They are pouring money into AI pilots, licenses, and want to find training

They gave up on training (for now)
November 7, 2025 at 7:34 AM
Dude these are companies that drop $20K on a 1-day training for 20people without blinking an eye

Have always done, always will

They are realistic in how this kind of training helps them

Often have even upskilling budgets

And before you roll your eyes at “training”

Done well, workshops that get people to try new tools, new ways of working, and having “aha!” moments are awesome

It’s hard to do well, and needs to be continuously updated as tools change: so it’s hard to do it right!

Demand is there, as are budgets…

My favorite quote from Chris in this episode:

“I believe in the power of programmers. I believe in the human potential of people that want to create things. And that’s fundamentally why I love software is that you can create anything that you can imagine.”

Be careful what sources you trust. Anonymous sources + those speculating frequently have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to software engineering… same with much of mainstream media

I’m writing up new details not shared before for Tuesday’s @pragmaticengineer.com

Companies seemed to realize that "I want to talk to a human" is used all too often and they put up more barriers before the bot actually connects to customer support

This is where I lose my patience with the whole thing, after the 3rd time the agent blocks me from doing it, as a paying customer

I analyzed it back in 2022, and don't see this trend being reversed at all: newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/native-vs-...

A few Staff+ level native mobile engineers I know at Big Tech are moving away from native mobile, into fullstack or Ai engineering, due to lack of growth and opportunities.
Is there a drop in native iOS and Android hiring at startups?
Fewer startups seem to be building native applications from day one. Why is this, and what does it mean for where native mobile engineering is headed?

Noticed a trend to have mainstream media report weeks or months about the exact same topics I surface in @pragmaticengineer.com . Here's a few of them: blog.pragmaticengineer.com/early-trends/
The Pragmatic Engineer: Early Trends
This page is a collection on software engineering industry trends that The Pragmatic Engineer reported on, well before mainstream media outlets picked up on these. Read more of these trends here – man...
