#ActuallyAutistic management consultant, company director, and cat daddy with a 3d printing workshop.

Usually around Warrnambool (Gunditjmara country), drinking coffee and/or running.
Today’s office: Iris Ethics is proud to be the Networking Event sponsor for the @eisummit.org #EIS2025 Summit. Set up a mini-booth to talk about all things ethical review and how we can support high quality implementation research.

Some light reading for the long weekend…

So I’m not saying today’s Fairfax Quick was easy (it wasn’t), but there’s a reason there’s a rule at the office that says I can’t participate in doing the crosswords until after 3pm when everyone else has had a go. New PB. Now to try and solve a @dontattempt.bsky.social quick that fast.

The world is pretty awful at the moment. Trying to block it out by doing cool stuff. Today it was setting a PB in a 10k race and then going to the park on the way home to show my parents in law koalas in the wild. Pretty cool.

Meanwhile on LinkedIn, apparently calling out people for transphobia makes me an #ActuallyAutistic misogynist:

Meanwhile this is how the story is being reported in Australia:

Gotta love #F1 fans - there are a few of these scattered around the world. The ones in Baku are especially hilarious.

Did get a good haul of books today. But held off on buying the mugs. Probably would be good for a drinking game where every time a bell is mentioned or rung you have to drink and do an Esmerelda dance.

An offhand observation while revisiting leadership texts: the list in the picture is of behaviours that inhibit a productive group culture. And yet the governance of nations is given over to people who regularly engage in these things, especially 16. Seems prima facie illogical to me.

Finished one more book, so onto the next. Jerome K Jerome’s “Three Men in a Boat. Haven’t got past the first page and am laughing at the continued relevance of the narrator’s observation. Could just as easily apply to WebMD or pharmaceutical ads today. “Plus ça change…” as the French say:

I spend a lot of time checking myself (not perfectly), trying not to wreck myself in my interactions. It’s tiring, but necessary. Or in meme form:

Looking at memes with @infinite-women.com:
IW: You can 3D print that, right?
Me: In theory…

There goes the rest of my vacation time.

If I’m quiet on socials at the moment, it’s because I’m on annual leave. A good time to shut things off. And a good time to lie down in a kayak on the river and let the current do the work.

Here's a perfect example of the variety of Autistic people and how sensory aversion can sit alongside sensory attraction as two sides of the same coin. Yes, there's only one food I won't eat. Yes, it's Cauliflower. Yes, I know it is the same genus as Broccoli and Brussels Sprouts. No, I don't care.

Typography matters. Especially since coffee is a diuretic.

Still blows my mind every time that I live in an era where I can track the flight that I am on over inflight wifi and post it to social media. (Picture from the @radarbox.bsky.social app)

Have had pizza for the last three meals (including breakfast). Not going to lie, it’s a lifestyle I can get behind.

Today’s office. Headed up to Sydney with a brief stop in Melbourne for lunch. Hopefully the weather is a little better than Warrnambool…

Adventures in 3D Printing: the previous owner of my house made some “interesting” renovations. Case in point, deciding that instead of extending a wall out 30cm, they’d have exposed pipes sticking out of the wall and floor. Designed and printed a nice cover to hide the missing floorboards.

Beautiful sunrise this morning here in Warrnambool.

Meanwhile, our gas connection got permanently removed today. We’re fully renewables now! The tradies left a pipe uncapped, so I 3D printed a cap for $0.35 of material in 30 minutes. The trip to Bunnings would have taken longer and cost way more (in impulse buys 😂). This is where the tech comes good.

Sunday fun. Making cake.

Yes, that’s a rice cooker insert, because it’s all done in the rice cooker. A perfect recipe for when you don’t have the “spoons” to cook but want something comforting. I use a half batch of Nagi Maehashi’s Forever Chocolate Cake recipe, if you’re interested in making one.
