Rep. George Whitesides
@georgewhitesides.bsky.social
Congressman for California's 27th District.
Unfortunately, the bill we voted on last night -- after the House has been out of session for nearly TWO MONTHS -- does nothing to tackle rising costs and the health care crisis facing millions of families across America. I opposed the bill, and I will keep fighting for my district.

I’ll continue to fight cuts to NASA and other science agencies, and urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to stand united against this misguided war on science. Our future depends on it.

With NASA now forced to scale back key research and exploration programs, we are not only hurting our local L.A. County community, but our national security and global competition.

This is part of a broader assault on science across the Administration. We should be strengthening national treasures like JPL — not devastating JPL workers and their families with layoffs.

That’s unacceptable. I’ll continue working with local, state, and federal partners to lower energy costs, create good-paying jobs, and move our energy sector forward.

Republican leadership — who currently control the House, the Senate, and the White House — have refused to negotiate with us, so I wanted to share exactly what these health care cuts will mean for our district.

Between cuts to SNAP and rising grocery costs, families across the country are struggling to afford basic necessities. We should be working on lowering costs and making life easier for our communities, not ripping health care and food away from those who need it most.

We’ve lost people who study infectious diseases, track natural disasters, hold polluters accountable, and keep our country safe from threats. We are all more vulnerable after months without their work.

Every second counts when fighting a fire like this one — Border Patrol’s decision to risk safety, slow operations down, and refuse to provide transparency is not acceptable.
