George Washington Family
@georgewashingtonfamily.org
We are descendants of George Washington’s parents – nieces and nephews of Uncle George. As a family, we are concerned that our Constitutional order is in danger and launched GeorgeWashingtonFamily.org to collect our thoughts.
The George Washington Family has been recommending Congress re-enable its responsibilities of authority, including that of the declaration of war.

As we replied to another post, this could be a good thing. Great opportunity for Congress to practice and perfect what should become a new habit - cooperatively legislating with veto-proof success. Make Congress relevant and great again. We have policy suggestions on GeorgeWashingtonFamily.org
George Washington's family - we are the nieces and nephews
We established this site to express our family's views on the threats to the Constitution and what Congress could do to preserve order.

For those most affected, these little wins are big wins. Still, the most urgent need is for Congress to overwhelmingly decide to return the power it has ceded over decades. It requires the sort of cross-party action that seems impossible, until it isn't. Regaining power should not be controversial.

Our prayer, is for Congress to take back command - away from the presidency and away from the Supreme Court. There is no greater need than for Congress to regain its authority. It can do so by 2/3 agreement, and there is not a court nor president that could stand in its way. (6/6)

Neither party has a monopoly on good deeds, nor lamentable ones, and no broad narrative can be attributed (we are FOR you, they are AGAINST you). The largest tax increase was passed by Reagan. Arguably the greatest congressional power giveaway was the AUMF, when Democrats held the Senate. (5/6)

The job of members of the House of Representatives, regardless of party, is to undertake extraordinary work on behalf of those represented. Issuing social media posts about how awful the other side is does nothing to further that responsibility. (4/6)

To deny their current relevance would deny reality itself. Parties exist, and each holds a set of philosophies. If taken to the unhealthy levels we see today, divisions will serve to weaken the very institution that is primary to the success of the US; congress has never been weaker. (3/6)

When our uncle committed the first signature to the Constitution, neither he nor any of the thirty eight who followed, grasped the quill in representation of any party. (2/6)

From the early days of our family, we were not enthusiastic about the idea of political parties. Our Constitution was assembled at a time when the nation was coordinating our development by proud founders who viewed their duty as a cooperative effort to manage a burgeoning democracy. (1/6)

Congress can and must take back control of all budget and spending responsibilities. The incremental relinquishment of their various powers needs to reverse course.

You're right, it is their duty to take immediate action. This is not the behavior of a Congress envisioned by the founders.

Our thoughts are similar. Congress has the ability to take command as the principal branch of government, from which the others derive their foundation, and agree to legislate with veto-proof authority for the continuance of our constitutional order.

It's all over Youtube now. Press freedom is essential for a functioning democracy.

Can't we look on the bright side? It's not the Trump Washington Monument or Trump Lincoln Memorial. That couldn't happen...

Congress should always be willing to impeach individuals who obstruct the lawful and proper administration of government.

You and Cassandra Good give us a lot to think about.

It's really the same answer we have been advocating - Congress. They proved they can do it with the recent veto-proof Epstein bill, and if they work together on presidential power abuses and other things, the Constitution survives. It is their game to continue losing, or pick up the ball.

This is what we need - congress coming together to take action and recall the power they have given away over the decades. This was veto-proof legislation, and we need much more of it.
