My wife wanted chickens. I did not. Now i'm obsessed with them. She doesn't use bluesky so it's safe to say here that I love em. I still get to grumble about HER chickens like this is all her fault.

So much for the router bit extension. Ever have your life flash before your eyes as a router bit flies past your face at mach shitfuck? I just did.

Looks like power and hand planes is how the flattening of this slab is going to go.

I ordered this new bit for the router. Hoping it will make flattening this slab a little easier and smoother.

Yay

Well shit. Bit dropped from the collet on the router and I did this while flattening.

Im gonna try to Bob Ross this "Happy Little Accident" later with either a graving piece or an inlay.

Side note: I am a master of "colorful" phrases in 3 languages, and all of them got used today. #woodworking

This should work as a good enough router sled... #woodworking

Today's update on my #woodworking project. Majority of bark inclusions have been dug out, need to take a Dremel wire wheel to the crevices and start to build a router sled to flatten. I'm going to loose a lot of thickness flattening it as it's pretty warped.

In other news my wife brought me this from her garden.

I took the power plane to the slab today. Looks like it was cut at a 45° angle from the trunk. Grain is interesting but still no clue as to species... I want to lean oak but it doesn't smell right or have the pores. LOTS of warp, inclusions, and some dry rot... this may need epoxy.

Ok, shops clean... so what now?
I've had this slabs of unknown wood for 7-8 years (side of the road find)

Time to turn it into a table. Lots of flaws (character) in this wood.

Need to get all the bark inclusions out, clean it up, and flatten it.

Time to get started!

Well... it's as clean as it's going to get. 17 days of cleanup and the #woodshop is ready to work in again. I still need to organize the toolboxes, but I'm happy where I'm at to get back to work.

Nevermind the slabs up against the lathe. It's going to be turned into a table now.

Continuing on with the shop cleanup. I found my son's mallet. He made it when he was 9 and I was making my own. It was nice to have him in the shop with me... good memories.

That was 3 years ago.

His is on the left, mine is on the right.
