Given there's no shortage of pro-indy parties would it not be easier to just be a campaigning group and endorse the best candidates from the other parties?

I wondered the same. FG are a bit more socially and economically liberal and tends to have higher support in urban areas.
Can't think of any other democracy where the 2 traditional main parties are so similar. Guess it makes coalition government much simpler

When was the last time an opposition party overtook the government in the polls and we could say it was mainly due to their competence as a party rather than the government messing up?

4 party coalition or maybe even 5 parties needed.
I don't follow Irish politics that closely. Could the Social Democrats end up in gov? Would they be willing to work with FF and FG?
