I keep thinking of this quote from the Great Gatsby:

“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”

So the UK government has sacked the head of the body responsible for consumer protection and replaced them with the former head of Amazon UK in order to get a greater emphasis on "growth".

I'm sure this will end well...

People often assume that there are harmful physical effects of precocious puberty that justify the use of puberty blockers, but the reality is that the harms of precocious puberty are purely psychosocial.

The main concern is that kids in early puberty will be teased and feel self-conscious.
Infuriating. Please note that this decision only applies to trans kids— cis kids going through precocious puberty still get to have them. Because they’re only experimental and dangerous when used for a purpose some people find icky
Puberty blockers to be banned indefinitely for under-18s across UK

A ban on a medication would normally happen to protect patients.

We know that's not the case here.

Puberty blockers were prescribed rarely by the NHS, after lengthy assessments. No harm has been found. Patients say they were necessary and the effects were wanted.

From a medical perspective, this is totally unjustified. A highly promising medical treatment, banned bc the evidence is still being developed.

That's how we know this whole thing is driven by fear and hate of trans people. Anyone saying otherwise is lying or confused about how medicine works.

The worst said about the use of puberty blockers for youth gender dysphoria is that the evidence, while generally positive, isn't as strongly positive as it could be.

On this basis lawmakers are instituting bans.

No harm has been demonstrated and no other treatments have any evidence whatever.

@Edent I remember how terrified everyone was of being fined when GDPR first came out. Millions were spent on compliance. So where the fuck is the ICO? Why aren't they slapping down those fabled fines of 4% of global turnover? I want to see someone getting humiliated and financially broken in court.
