They're so stupid. We Jews have such wonderful and interesting things to study. I have trouble motivating myself to learn more about antisemitism.

Still, Twitter about 10 years ago was great for suggesting good new writing from various viewpoints.

With that gone, budgets everywhere cut, and paywalls, where do you find good opinion writing?

I remember when I was in college @jmittell.bsky.social suggested finding thinkers you trust and following them across platforms. I think that advice holds up well.

The obvious answer is Substack and email newsletters more generally. There are lots of thinkers I like writing newsletters but I often feel that their writing on these platforms is half baked and could use an editor (not trying to be pretentious- it just rankles me).

One good source I’ve found recently is the @open-society.bsky.social’s Ideas Letter www.theideasletter.org

The @nytimes.com is often my first stop, but I worry about their lack of viewpoint diversity — generally, their lack of radical voices and thinkers of varying backgrounds. I do think @nytopinion.nytimes.com is the best single platform for opinion writing, but it could be so much better.

With the sacking of Twitter and the general decline of journalism, I’ve been wondering for a while how to find good opinion writing on the internet.
