I finally got to see Melbourne Ska Orchestra at Ottawa Bluesfest Thursday. Amazing band with an outstanding stage presence. I've wanted to see them for a long time. If there were a roof, they would have torn it off.

It's that magical day when Joseph Montferrand (Big Joe Mufferaw) returns and puts Timbits and Double-doubles in the toques of all of the good little Canadian children.
Happy Canada Day!

There were no long lines at the advanced polls this afternoon. Only took a minute. Basically everyone who arrived at the poll was next in line, and the other poll at the location had no voters.

Mehul Book Sales did a great job summarizing some of the key points of "The Lean Entrepreneurship Playbook" in a LinkedIn post announcing they've made the book available in India. Thank you, Mehul Book Sales, for your support, and for the great summary.

Make it stop! This poor smishing attempt was accompanied by a payment link. I'm always grateful when they are this obvious, but I have seen some very good phishing attempts lately.

I used to give first time managers these books. The one on the left encourages managers to catch people doing something right. The other helps them recognize when they're taking too much on and gives basic delegation tips. Have you read these? Do you think they're still relevant? #Leadership #Growth

Less than 45 minutes until the Sweden - Finland World Junior Semi-final face off and it’s eerily quiet. Should be a great game.

I had an opportunity to meet Jimmy Carter very briefly at a conference. His grip was so strong I wasn't sure I'd have a hand left when we finished our handshake. It reminded me of shaking hands with the steel workers and fishermen where I grew up — people who were not strangers to hard work.

The work he, and Dr. Donald Hopkins, did Ato eradicate guinea worm through the Carter Center was innovative and inspiring.

Both World Junior games were fun today. Congratulations to Team Latvia on a well-earned, nail-biter of a win. Feldbergs (Goaltender) stood on his head (56 saves and no shoot out goals), and the rest of the team had to have blocked 40-50 shots.

The World Junior Hockey Tournament has been my favourite hockey tournament for a very long time. Great talent, high energy, and a lot of fun. Tonight it’s Canada vs. Czechia in the last pre-tournament game.

I often showed these two books, published less than two years apart, to illustrate how things were evolving, our increasing understanding of the environment, and the need for continuous learning and improvement.

"'Unix Security' and Other Oxymorons" was probably my favourite title of any of my conference sessions. It helped people switching to UNIX (an emerging business platform in the 90s) understand the security concerns. Just found this presenter's gift from an international auditor's conference.

I am looking for book recommendations!
I enjoy books that cover interesting real-world business related stories like Bad Blood and Flash Boys (Red Notice, Character Limit...). I'm in the mood to read one over the holidays. Any suggestions?

In Canada? No tax on The Lean Entrepreneurship Playbook (print edition) during the tax holiday. That's 13% savings here in Ontario or up to 15% in the Atlantic Provinces.

I had season tickets when the “Pizza Line” was the best line in hockey. They always put on a fantastic show. I haven’t been to a game in a long time, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see them together again at the CTC.

I recently finished Character Limit, which was excellent, and I'm currently finishing Mehdi Hasan's book, which has been great so far.

What are you reading?
What would you recommend?

Jim Saliba gave these to me when we met last Thursday. Jim wrote one, and the other was written by another Ottawa-Gatineau author, whom Jim kindly introduced me to Friday. I'm looking forward to reading both.

After the Logikus, it was a TRS-80, and Commodore PETs

I had one of these when I was in elementary school. It was programmed using the wire jumpers. I think it was originally named Logikus. I think Radio Shack sold in Canada under a different name, possibly Logix.

I'll drink to that! Have a great day, Lisa.
