The viability of decentralized social media is questioned. Concerns arise about the inherent need for centralized aggregation points and the potential for a single entity to dominate even open protocols. #Decentralization 5/6

I think it is because of SQLite's backward compatibility focus that causes many best practices - like WAL mode, foreign key enforcement, and sane busy timeouts, are not enabled by default.

I posted this to HN as well. Hope to have a good discussion there.

That is cool.

I run everything from a mac-mini that is always running.

And for the cron job, I use @dagu-org.bsky.social (single binary with web-UI). It can create complex workflows and can run arbitrary commands or scripts on a schedule.

You can also configure it to send emails on errors.

I look at post from news.ycombinator.com/front and sort them by points. The sorted post ID is my list. I then update the list (including points) 3 times a day.

I run multiple cron jobs to do all of this.

Do you have any better suggestions?

Got it.

What do you think about creating a Bluesky feed? That way, folks don’t have to follow an account, but instead they can look at the feed.

About my bot, yes it is about highlighting the top ideas discussed in the HN post comments. It posts 2 stories every 3 hours.

That is so cool!
Your drip-feed approach of posting sounds interesting.

I have been working on an HN bot as well, and was posting every hour. I realized that frequency could drown the time-lines of folks who have low follower count. Maybe it is better as a feed instead🤔
