Actually, from looking at their website it would appear that it could be old stock left over from TBP taking over newscastlegifts’s stall at the station.

I mean I would’ve hoyed it straight in the bin, personally.

I wonder how many times have you poked your head out of a well to try and assert some form of moral or intellectual superiority over random strangers on social media in an attempt to fill the crushing void of emptiness residing in your soul.

So there we have it. After a bit of a trip around the houses, I have an (almost fully) working Sega Saturn, with access to the whole catalogue of games via the SD Loader. Mint.

After all that (and checking everything was all connected properly) I plugged it in and….

With the wires connected to the correct pins, I put the board back in the case, and fed the wires out from underneath. Then I ran the 5v wire and connected it to the correct rail on the power connector, routing it under the RF shielding for neatness.

Then I had to connect the output and ground wires to the cd drive ribbon connector. On my first attempt I managed to cock up and connected the wires to the points at the wrong end of the connector - quick de-solder then attached them to the right end!

When the oscillator finally showed up in the post, I set to attaching wires to it for +5V voltage (red), the output signal (yellow) and ground (black)

Right then, an update.

If you listen to the video in that previous video (and this one) it’s all distorted. Turns out this is because the Saroo loader uses the timing crystal on the cd drive to play back music and PCM sound files at the correct rate.

As this drive is knackered, it’s all weird

Luckily, I wasnt intending on using it to play discs (they’re all in the loft anyway) and instead I’ve got a Saroo SD Loader cart which works like a charm (after a bit of fiddling to get it to work in the cart slot). Absolutely chuffed.
