Druimchardain, Glenshee. One day a month, rain or shine. This was my last visit and one of the nicest with no wind and lovely light.

I meet my shadow in the deepening shade;
I hear my echo in the echoing wood.' Roethke.

A full year, 12 days, Druimchardain marginal garden created by Geoffrey Dutton d.2010. A woodland garden inc. a steep gorge, inherently dark. Little tended, transitioning to another state. Full of beauty and wonderful still.

Druimchardain, August. marginal garden created by G. Dutton. One day a month rain or shine. This is my last month, now the task of editing and reworking the broad selection of the year. Other elements also to be considered and looking for a publisher that might be interested. #garden #photography

mapping ~ slowly nowhere becomes somewhere.

Difficult to see now but then the past often becomes obscure and lost.
These sites were for many somewhere, they did and still exist.

Clunskea glen, visiting a site recorded and in this years DES. But wait ! 5 more shieling huts tucked away nearby, possibly more still be found or associated enclosures. They're quite different; smaller (1 person?) and more oblong than normal. Earlier builds?? An interesting area.

A few more Druimchardain Garden added. One month still to do tho I might overlap with last September. Many will certainly not make the final cut. Hopefully it becomes a portrait of the garden.

If you love gardens and gardening you will like my friend Stuart Blackwoods 'Seven Gardens Thirteen Months' book on Blurb.
Some stunningly gorgeous images that I'm quite envious of... You can preview the whole book (small or large) here: www.blurb.co.uk/books/255105...

Cargill cemetery. The wildflower patch looking good and the bees love it but still lots of very aggressive and invasive comfrey, nettles and cleaver (sticky willy) to deal with long term
Rewilding is never such.

"We're talking about 50-million-year-old species on the brink that just needs a brick with a hole in it"
Architects should get behind the campaign to support endangered birds by installing swift bricks in all new UK homes, writes Hannah Bourne-Taylor.

Glencoe turf house. I hope there's a disclaimer as to its relevant authenticity. Good idea and tourists will get something of an idea, construction etc except for the living conditions and probable squalor of the time.
Kids might be inspired 🤔so good for that.

An interesting Saturday at Achnacon, Glencoe with
ACFA Field Archaeology. Shown around by lead archaeologists Dr Edward Stewart and Derek Alexander.

A really interesting dig and location. Updates etc. can be found here: glencoeandrannochenvirons.wordpress.com

Druimchardain Garden. Glenshee. June.
Created by Geoffrey Dutton (1924 – 2010).
1 day a month rain or shine, and on this occasion also scorching 🥵despite the shade of the trees.

When is a wall not a wall ?? This uniformly collapsed wall is just over a mile long (1.65km). How could it be in such a consistent state of collapse. How did this come about, seems very curious.

Oddly all unrecorded (??). Corn drying kiln with barn, Unidentified large building with no obvious ground level entrance, bothies, enclosures and a Very nice hut circle. Nearby other large hut circles, rig/furrow, etc. Plus a long wall that isn't 🤔
