Do your professional development trainings look like this??

What an awesome day out at Lake Norman State Park with the Schools in the Park Program. Working together to bring the outdoors into the classroom and the students out exploring State Parks!

Oh wow what a find!

I've been feeling sad about having to leave NC in the new year after my newfound fungi obsession but seeing your post made me happy 😅😂

Last night in the UK before my flight in the morning.

Let out some energy by breaking in my new trail running shoes 👟

Summer reading 🌞

Bought The Pebbles on the Beach book yesterday at Lynmouth and almost finished reading it. This morning we went to St Audrie's Waterfall and searched for pebbles and sea glass.

This afternoon we are fossil hunting in Watchet after an amazing meal and some ciders at a local pub!

I visited our native pollinator garden at school today to check on it before my flight and found monarch caterpillars on our milkweed!

I created a little flyer with the photos to share the news with the community!

This native garden at a park I visit yesterday was absolutely stunning.

Looking more closely, I actually became concerned.

Could not see a pollinator in sight...

Southern Mountains of NC!
We spent the day splashing through cold, clear streams, flipping rocks, and spotting salamanders in one of North Carolina’s beautiful state parks.

🦎 Handled wildlife with care—wet, clean and gentle hands.*

What an awesome day doing some PD for my EE Certification. This time we, explored the CATCH curriculum and ran activities for the community alongside NC Wildlife biologists. (Fishing was a plus!)

Also, snuck in a visit to Haw River State Park on the way home!

Enjoyed the cooler morning air out on our school Nature Trail this morning!

We brought our binoculars and magnifying glasses to help us with our observations.

Also enjoyed the new signs put in by our local Eagle Scouts!

Adding these from my personal library!

Scholastic were getting rid of 100s of books from one of their warehouses.

I got a cardboard box full of books for $20!

Will be adding them to my classroom library to try and promote more reading!

I really enjoyed doing these stations on the structure of the Earth for my 6th Grade classes.

I'll be checking understanding and addressing misconceptions next week with feedback and consolidating their learning!

After years of playing the Carbon Cycle Dice Game in my classroom, I upgraded it!

Lots of inspo from Project Learning Tree with some locational (NC) related sides to the dice. I also add props like tree slices, coal samples, and other items they can observe at their stations.

Our Park Rangers are amazing! If you are an Environmental Educator or science teacher, make sure you connect with them!

My local rangers allowed me to borrow these track molds so I can share them with my students!

We are on Spring Break traveling around springs and beaches. My 2 y old has been up since 3 am demanding to go to the beach and saying "beach" in his sleep 🤣

The water is in his soul 🩵

Was completely and utterly burnt out. So took my 1 and 1/2 day PTO I had left to drive 8 hrs with my 2 boys and get away. It's been the best decision.

I used to feel guilty about taking time off teaching but I need to do this more for me and my family.

Next best I can do is lights off in my classroom, surrounded by my plants and rocks, music playing and grading papers...
