Leg 2 of my Min Soc UK Lecture tour was to Uni Bayreuth 🇩🇪. Had a great time catching up with @audreybouvier.bsky.social & seeing Hero Bain's garnet prep for dating work with Audrey. Plus Tony Withers showed me the fab experimental petrology labs! I may also have indulged in a little schnapps... 🌍🍸😈

Had a great time on Friday co-hosting the UCL Earth Sciences Alumni Dinner. We welcomed back staff and students who worked and studied with us back in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and beyond. Lots of great stories and reunions (and fabulous photos!). Thanks to Ambassadors Bloomsbury Hotel for hosting! 🥂

Excited to see our #openaccess Nature Geoscience paper out! Great work led by Tom Lamont suggesting Laramide porphyry #Cu deposits in the western USA resulted from water-fluxed crustal melting during flat-slab subduction. Huge thanks to BHP for funding! 🌟🌵🌎🇺🇸

Porphyry copper formation driven by water-fluxed crustal melting during flat-slab subduction - Nature Geoscience
Laramide flat-slab subduction releases fluids into the overlying crust that mediate water-fluxed melting of precursor arc lower crust, ultimately forming porphyry copper deposits, according to a geoch...
